Iyaz studied digital recording at New England Institute of Technology. A track by Out Da Box Family, “Island Girls”, achieved radio success in the Caribbean after he was featured on it. In 2008, Sean Kingston discovered Iyaz through his Myspace page, and signed him to Time Is Money/Beluga Heights shortly thereafter. Michael Nguyen introduced him to producer and Beluga Heights head J.R. Rotem. He released “Replay” in 2009, which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at number 1 in several countries, including the United Kingdom. [4] His second single, “Solo,” peaked at number 32. In addition, he participated in the recording of the Haiti charity single, “We Are the World 25 for Haiti”. He was also featured on Jake Zyrus’s track “Pyramid” from his debut album, Replay. HitQuarters interviewed Rotem about Iyaz’s creative perfection:

The end result that he gets is usually an absolute gem, so heartfelt and genuine. He may work on one song for days instead of doing several songs in one day.”

Additionally, Iyaz appeared on the fourth season of Hannah Montana, Hannah Montana Forever, and co-wrote a song with Miley Cyrus called “Gonna Get This”, which is featured on the Hannah Montana Forever soundtrack. In 2011, Iyaz played a part in Big Time Rush’s song “If I Ruled the World”. David Guetta produced “Last Forever” and its follow-up, “At Last”. Akon’s “My Girl” and New Boyz’s “Break My Bank” feature Iyaz.

Iyaz performed “You’re My Only Shorty” with Demi Lovato from Lovato’s third studio album, Unbroken. Later in the year, he released a song titled “My Heart Broke” with Travie McCoy. A Christmas song requested by his grandparents, Iyaz uploaded a duet called “Christmas Time” featuring Sha Sha Jones to YouTube.

A number of tracks credited to Iyaz surfaced online in 2013, including “Da Da Da”, “Congrats”, and “What Is This Feeling?”

After leaving his previous labels, Iyaz signed with Los Angeles-based Rekless Music, which is distributed by Alternative Distribution Alliance and Warner Music Group. A cover of Chris Brown’s “Loyal” was followed by a cover of Magic! ‘s “Rude”. In December 2014, Iyaz announced he would release a single titled “One Million,” posting a snippet on SoundCloud. “One Million” was released on iTunes in Japan on 12 December 2014, the first single from Aurora, available exclusively in Japan on 8 April 2015.

Iyaz released “Alive”, featuring Nash Overstreet of Hot Chelle Rae, on July 24, 2015. The song was produced by Rekless Music’s President/CEO, Boy Rekless Salbego, and Stuart Hart. The official video of for live” premiered exclusively on MTV on 23 September 2015.
